Science Master Courses

master courses imagesAll students are required to complete three credits of lab science courses for graduation including physical science and biology. The following courses will fulfill those requirements

(SCI211) Applied Biology/Chemistry (S1)

Grade Placement: 10,11,12………..0.5 credit……….Semester

Prerequisite: .

This course is a practical hands-on course that is designed for students who are not planning to pursue a career in the advanced sciences. This course will introduce students to introductory biology and chemistry concepts and skills. While a variety of laboratory techniques will be covered, lecture is also necessary for proper understanding of the content and procedures. This course will fulfill the requirement of one credit toward the three required for college admission.

SCI201 BIOLOGY

Grade Placement: 10, 11, 12………0.5 credit………S1

Biology is the scientific study of living organisms. Major topics covered in the course include the cell, cellular reproduction, genetics, microbiology, botany, vertebrates, human biology and ecological relationships. A variety of lab work, including DNA study and dissections, are an important part of the course.

SCI202 BIOLOGY

Grade Placement: 10, 11, 12………0.5 credit………S2

Biology is the scientific study of living organisms. Major topics covered in the course include the cell, cellular reproduction, genetics, microbiology, botany, vertebrates, human biology and ecological relationships. A variety of lab work, including DNA study and dissections, are an important part of the course.

SST301 CHEMISTRY

Grade Placement: 10, 11, 12……….0.5 credit……….S1

Prerequisite: Physical Science and Algebra I

Chemistry is the study of atoms and molecules as they bond together to form the building materials of nature. The course is essentially inorganic and will prepare the student for college chemistry. Chemical principles and theories are presented in the classroom and laboratory. Algebra I is essential.

SCI305 ECOLOGY (S1 or 2)

Grade Placement: 10,11,12………..0.5 credit………semester

Prerequisite: Successful completion of one credit of Biology is recommended.

Ecology is the study of living organisms and their relationships to one another and the environment. The course emphasizes the effects of people on plant and animal populations, natural resources and pollution. Students taking ecology should have a basic understanding of mathematics. Field trips will be an important part of the course

SCI402 PHYSICS

Grade Placement: 10, 11, 12………0.5 credit………S2

Prerequisite: Have completed or be presently enrolled in Algebra II

Physics is the science that examines the physical (nonliving) world. Topics covered are mechanics, nuclear physics, heat, wave motion, sound, light, electricity, and magnetism. These topics are discussed and investigated thoroughly in the laboratory.
